Abstract
The contribution of livestock in total agriculture and allied sector GVA (at constant prices) has increased from 24.32 per cent in 2014-15 to 30.38 per cent in 2021-22. The level of mechanization is lower in the family type enterprises than in the modern livestock enterprises. It is proved that the application of mechanization has potential for the disposal efficiency of livestock and poultry farming waste, effectively reduced the pollution discharge, and improved the living environment. This further help in laying foundation for the sustainable development for livestock industry. In the present paper, efforts are made to highlight the ICAR initiatives, mechanization and perspectives of modern technologies to be used in animal husbandry for enhancing the mechanization level. The AICRP on Mechanization of Animal Husbandry (MAH) is working in nine states to address the mechanization needs in dairy animals, and poultry. Cooperating centres have developed machines/ technologies using modern gadgets (sensor etc) for dairy animals and poultry. There is great scope of AI/IOT, drone, sensors, cameras etc. for mechanizing the animal husbandry sector in the country. It has also the potential to improve productivity, enhance traceability, assist in disease prevention and provide for animal health and well-being accountability.
