Abstract
Field experiments were conducted during the crop season 2021-2023 to test the new sugarcane genotypes received under All India Coordinated Research Project on Sugarcane at Yaragatti Sugarcane Research Centers of S. Nijalingappa Sugar Institute Belagavi to identify promising genotypes of sugarcane and assess their effect of crop age at harvest on cane and sugar yield. New sugarcane genotypes (Co15010 and Co15017) were planted along with Co 86032 and CoC 671 at monthly intervals starting from August to February and were harvested at the age of 10, 12 and 14 months. Each planting was treated as a separate experiment and was laid out in Completely Randomised Block Design (CRBD) with the objective of identifying varieties and age at harvest for planting in different months. Among the different dates of planting, November planting recorded higher sugarcane yield and CCS yield (144.00 and 18.23 MT/ha) followed by January, September and October plantings (137.00, 134.00, 127.00 and 18.05, 15.94 and 15.55 MT/ha, respectively). February planting was better in Co 07015 a new variety than the other varieties. Planting from February onwards resulted in lower yield and poor quality. Across the varieties among the different planting months, harvesting at 14 months gave significantly higher yield.
