Real-time Automatic Monitoring of Soil Moisture, Relative Humidity, and Temperature Inside a Polyhouse Using Sensors and PLC

Abstract

Real-time monitoring of the polyhouse environment using sensors and advanced software can significantly improve yield and economic performance by optimizing plant growth. In this paper, we present an automatic system that collects and monitors information related to the polyhouse environment, including temperature, RH, and soil moisture. The developed system establishes correlations between sensor signals and reference measurements of the environmental variables to which they are exposed and takes corrective measures by switching the fan on or off for temperature and RH control. This information helps farmers increase yield, improve crop quality, and ensure timely crop management in polyhouse cultivation.
