Abstract
The livestock sector is recognised for its dual role in contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and its susceptibility to climate change effects. This article discusses the key emission sources in livestock systems, which include enteric fermentation, manure management, and feed supply chain activities etc., while evaluating their environmental implications. It further discusses key climate change adaptation measures, which include improved production systems, climate resilient forages, silvopastoral systems, and enhanced disease surveillance, while mitigation measures include integrated crop-livestock systems, optimized nutrient management, and low carbon logistics. By synthesizing current scientific knowledge, this article highlights key areas for reducing emissions and adapting to climate change while promoting efficient livestock systems. The results emphasize the necessity for coordinated climate informed interventions to maintain sustainable and efficient livestock production as environmental conditions evolve.
