Abstract
A field experiment was conducted during Kharif season of 2023 to study the effect of herbicides on the growth and yield in hybrid maize at Kakhli Research farm, Dr. Khem Singh Gill Akal College of Agriculture, Eternal University, Baru Sahib. The experiment was carried out in randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. The experiment consists of 9 treatment combinations viz., T1 - Weed check, T2 - Two hand weddings (20 & 40 DAS), T3 - Tembotrione (100 g/ha at 25 DAS), T4 - Tembotrione (120 g/ha at 25 DAS), T5 - Tembotrione (140 g/ha at 25 DAS), T6 -Tembotrione + surfactant (100 g/ha +1000 ml/ha at 25 DAS), T7 - Tembotrione + surfactant (120 g/ha +1000 ml/ha at 25 DAS), T8 - Tembotrione + surfactant (140 g/ha +1000 ml/ha at 25 DAS), T9- Atrazine (1 kg/ha at 2-3 DAS). The soil of experimental field was sandy loam in texture, alkaline in nature, high in organic carbon and available nitrogen, available phosphorus & available potassium is medium. Results of the experiment revealed that the two hand weedings resulted in higher growth parameters and lower values were recorded in weed check treatment. Significantly highest grain yield and stover yield were recorded in two hand weedings , while lowest were recorded in weed check treatment. So, it was concluded that among different weed control treatments, better growth parameters were found in two hand weeding treatment along with higher grain yield and stover yield.
